Why You Should Wash Your Face With Fat. Seriously!
Using fat (oil) to clean your face sounds crazy. Ridiculous even. Especially after years and years of “oil-free” products being touted as essential for oily skin by all the big cosmetic companies. I will let you in on a little secret. “Oil-free” really means: water, alcohol, foaming agents, fillers and thickeners. The latter not only dry out your skin and expose you to a long list of nastiness, but they also happen to be super… duper… cheap. And that is wonderful for Company XYZ’s bottom line.
So, why should you wash your face with fat? Because, like attracts like. Or in this case, like dissolves like. The fats in your oil cleanser will actually bind to any existing dirt and oil on your skin. This method of cleansing also helps balance oily/combination skin that is stuck in the vicious cycle of chemical over-stripping.
But wait, there’s more! Oil cleansing is also fabulous for dry skin – well all skin types actually. Oil cleansers have a remarkable ability to impart oil in places where it’s needed, and dissolve dirt and oil in places where it’s not. Perfection.
The key to oil cleansing is finding the right blend of oil and fats. Because even though these ingredients are all oily, some are astringent and some are not. That is why washing with pure coconut oil can work well for some and cause problems for others.
In our Grapefruit & Lavender Luxury Cleanser, we use a combination of ethically raised, grass fed Tallow and organic Castor oil, along with organic Lavender, Grapefruit and Sweet Orange essential oils. Tallow is an outstanding Superfood for the skin. And because it has a similar cellular structure to our own skin, we can readily absorb and assimilate all the powerful nutrients it contains.
Switching to a simpler but consistent beauty ritual, using products that are healing and pure will allow your skin to balance itself out. Your body is incredibly smart and knows what it needs. Remember to create a more balanced environment for your skin by drinking plenty of good water, eating real food and eliminating harsh chemicals as much as possible.
